The Final Countdown

So it's not 10 days, but I love this image. Arrested Development has been doing some very funny and clever marketing for the new episodes launching on Netflix on May 26 - just in time for my vacation!

I was just trying to think of something favorite about the show - but I can't pick. There are so many great lines, gags, characters. If you haven't seen AD, you can watch the first three seasons on Netflix and laugh your ass off.

Where have I been???

Um, how did I not know about Scandal? I think some of you may recall my obsession early on with another show created by Ms. Shonda Rhimes, Grey's Anatomy. Those first two seasons were just sooooo good. Then Izzy went crazy and there was a deer and George died and the hospital merged with another one and it didn't get good again until some crazy dude came in and killed half the staff. And even though this last season has been a bit nuts - plane crash??? buying the hospital??? - I still enjoy Grey's.

Well, I read this article in Entertainment Weekly about Scandal and decided to check it out. Season 1 is on Netflix and Season 2 is on Hulu Plus. I watched all of it in about a week. It is so good and juicy and is filled with great dialogue and speeches that remind me of those early Grey's days. If you haven't seen it, the show is about Olivia Pope, a DC lawyer who heads up a team of fixers who call themselves Gladiators. And she also happens to be having an affair with the president. There's all these crazy conspiracies and cabals and it's highly addictive!

Doctor Who posters

One of the things I love about this season of Doctor Who is the movie poster treatments for each episode. While not all of the episodes may measure up, the posters kick ass! I am actually really enjoying this run with the Doctor's new companion Clara. Saturday's episode The Crimson Horror was very cool and creepy. I love when the Doctor assembles a team of sidekicks and in this one, he revisits his team from the Christmas episode. Next week, is the new Neil Gaiman episode with the return of Cybermen!

Scoundrels

I think you probably know that I love Star Wars. It's definitely up there on my list of expressions. But I've never before read any Expanded Universe stuff - I always thought that was too nerdy for me. Well, now I guess they are not!

After a horrible experience listening to 1Q84 (read the rant here), I wanted something light and fun to listen to and well, I was sucked in by the cover. Han, Chewy, Lando. Sounded good to me!

And well, it was probably one of my favorite audiobooks ever! It was super fun. The reader, Marc Thompson, does some great voices - his Harrison Ford impression was pretty good! And there are all kind of sound effects and background noises and bits of John Williams' score that really made it feel like I was listening to a movie. (Maybe they'll make this into one now that Disney plans to make more of them!)

The story was like Oceans 11 in a galaxy far, far away. Han assembles a crew to pull off a heist and there's lots of good action, twists, references to Star Warsy stuff to make it all awesome.

*** I also forgot to mention there's a scene that I thought was a bit of a nod to Indian Jones. It involves Han carrying a whip and running from something pretty big.
